Generative Ambient music in Ableton Live (free project file) | generative music for studying

video upload by CNTR RNDM

"Stumbled on this amazing @ANDREW HUANG modular twinkle jam (link below) the other day and it inspired me to try and achieve something similar in Ableton Live. Ableton is really great when it comes to generating and manipulating midi notes. It provides you with all these tools that let you manipulate midi events in so many ways. In fact, you could say that Ableton, at least kind of, is a / is like a modular synthesizer. @Seed to Stage has a really great tutorial on this topic (link below).
So, for this jam, I basically just used three instances of Wavetable (one for the lower notes, one for the mid notes, and one for the higher notes) and a TON of Ableton's midi fx to create and edit midi events, like, randomly. I also used @Ned Rush s probability tool (link below) to modulate note probability over time, you know, just to create some movement. And to top it off, I used the amazing Microtuner to create kind of a microtonal-I'm-a-bit-tipsy kind of vibe.
And the cool thing is, you can download the stock plugin version of the project file for free…have fun with it! Here's the link:

(little sidenote: this generative patch is BY NO MEANS perfect...I should have limited the range of the high notes here and there for example...so please tweak it, improve it, do whatever you like and make it your own!!!)

While we're at it, why don’t you grab my free drums sample pack as well:

Feel free to check my other packs on gumroad as well:

All my samples and kits are copyright free - you can use them in your own productions, videos, whatever. If you make a cool track with one of my kits or sample packs, let me know!"

Pure Sound: Korg Volca Modular

Published on Feb 5, 2019 SUTURE SOUND

"Disclosure: A Korg employee gave me this synth at NAMM. They didn't ask me to make anything with it but hey it's a new synth and we're all curious how it sounds. This is a video of me using it for the first time, patched for about 20 minutes and trimmed it down to my favorite bits. Raw audio recorded direct with no post processing."

The most extreme delay effect in the world!?

Published on Nov 7, 2018 ANDREW HUANG / SUTURE SOUND

Third video is super nice.

Playlist:
The most extreme delay effect in the world!
Rain I | Andrew Huang
Generative sequence coming from Eloquencer - about half the notes are set to skip or slightly vary in pitch about half the time. The sequence plucks nRings (4-note polyphony, modulated/inharmonic string mode) which runs through Rainmaker for delay, Jellysquasher for compression, and Morgasmatron for a bit of low pass filtering in the outro. Towards the end I also fade Rainmaker gradually to full wet.

CV coming from Noise Tools' slew output (attenuated by Quad VCA), Pamela's New Workout, and Dual S&H, to modulate the delay time and nRings' "brite" and "damp". In hindsight I should have attenuated further because the delay signal's pitch gets a little too warbly at times.

Final output brought into Ableton to pass through a FabFilter Pro-R reverb and to add the rain recording.
Rain II | Andrew Huang
A variation on the patch I posted yesterday. I randomized Eloquencer's sequence, randomized Rainmaker's settings, changed nRings' to sympathetic strings mode and fine tuned some of its other parameters, and this whole other piece arrived in a matter of minutes.

Endorphin.es BLCK_NOIR Sounds & Walkthrough

Published on Aug 29, 2018 SUTURE SOUND

"In this video all sounds come from BLCK_NOIR with no post processing. Sequencing from Winter Modular's excellent Eloquencer.

Disclaimer: Endorphin.es sent me a pre-release Blck_Noir unit, because we are friends. They didn't pay me or ask me to do anything specific with it."
